ABOUT CoE LIBRARIES

The City of Ekurhuleni is home to 47 libraries and 2 mobile libraries. In addition, the libraries have 5 Knowledge Centres, a live stream studio and a Cisco Academy. All libraries do have study spaces and public access computers and free Wi-Fi. FINDING YOUR CLOSEST LIBRARY

Libraries are open Monday to Thursday from 08h00 – 16h30 and Friday from 08h30 – 16h30.

BECOME A MEMBER OF THE CoE LIBRARIES IN 4 EASY STEPS:

  1.    Complete and application form at your nearest library,
    2.    Bring along your ID or passport,
    3.    Show proof of address, such as a service account, and
    4.    Provide two references of persons not living at the same address as you.
    And it is absolutely free to join your library!Provide two references.

THE FOCUS OF OUR LIBRARIES IS ON:

•    ICT courses and development
•    Skills development and capacity building
•    Early Childhood Development (ECD) programmes, and School support.

 

ACTIVITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES

 

ICT literacy:

There are opportunities from basic computer literacy to obtaining and international certificate, as well as skills development, research skills and also career guidance

 

Writing skills

Authors and budding authors created platforms to practice and perfect their craft.

 

Book clubs

Join a book club and meet regularly for interesting discussions and conversations around your favourite books.

 

Debates

Develop, practice and perfect your debating and public speaking skills

 

Born to Read

Listening to stories start in the womb.  In partnership with clinics, expectant mothers read stories to their unborn babies.

 

ECD Centres

Early Childhood Development Centres are supported through literacy support and programmes, toy libraries, story telling and puppet shows.

 

Research and Information

The library has the resources available to assist you with your research or to find the information you need.  

Libraries will also assist with:

•    Computers and Wi-Fi for online job applications
•    Space and equipment for online interviews (e.g. through Skype, Zoom or MS Teams)
•    GDE registrations
•    Live stream studio for programmes and presentations.
